Students from the University of Hawaii at Hilo turned in a strong, across-the-board performance during the 13th annual Health Occupation Students of America – Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference from Feb. 21-23 on Oahu, with all 10 delegates placing in their respective events.
The public service announcement Team A comprised of Sheldon Cabudol, Lark Jason Canico (UH-Hilo alumni) and Kelly Gani captured top honors for their PSA “Prediabetes: Stopping a Runaway Train.” Team B, made up of Leslie Arce, Deserie Pagatpatan, Travis Taylor and Jeremy Villanueva, came in third with their PSA on the same topic.
Individual results saw Daniel Kimura finish second in medical terminology and Kateleen Caye Bio placing second and Kendrick Justin Dalmacio placing third in pharmacology.
Canico ended his term as the Hawaii HOSA state officer and regional coordinator and becomes co-adviser for the UH-Hilo chapter along with the current adviser, Dr. Jarred Prudencio of the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy.
The HOSA at UH-Hilo team moves on to the International Conference, scheduled for June 27-30 at the Dallas Convention Center in Texas.
